Sand Point Yacht Club is a private yacht club on Park Point, inside the Duluth harbor basin on the western end of beautiful Lake Superior.

We are 100% member-owned and run, in a private setting with no transient dockage. Summer dockage and outdoor winter storage are included with membership. Lake Superior is 1 mile away via the Aerial Lift Bridge, and we're only a few hours away by water from the Apostle Islands, Isle Royale or some of the wonderful places along the shoreline of Lake Superior.
History
Following a few years of research and securing permits, in 1974 ten men forged ahead, each pitched in $1,000 and leased a piece of swamp and brush on Park Point. With families in tow, some children as small as three years, they all worked diligently to clear this point of land upon which their vision to build a small marina would come to fruition. Because of the preceding aforethought, it would come to pass that this little spit of land would be the safe haven from any direction the wind would blow, and the boats would cling to their docks in the worst of weather. A sandy point at the end of the property would remain, and thus the name "Sand Point" Marina and Yacht Club was a most fitting one indeed!
The land leased consisted of seven city lots, 40 x 100 feet, including riparian rights extending out into St. Louis Bay. Following another almost ten years of development of the land itself, installing the docks, having the water and sewer run, as well as landscaping the area with a driveway, sod, grass, shrubs and trees, etc., and countless hours of dealing with the City Planning Commission and the City Council, we were able to eventually purchase our marina property in 1984-85.
